PF-9060 FAQs
Can the PF-9060 360 Fuser Pro work with my existing Hot Box?
The PF-9060 is designed to work with the Precision Fixtures PF-9070 Hot Box. It can also accommodate many legacy Hot Boxes, including older flush-fastener styles and newer button-head styles using available spacers. Other Hot Box configurations may require a semi-custom nest or adapter. Contact Precision Fixtures with an RFQ or schedule a Teams meeting and we can review the application. Engineering fees may apply for custom configurations.
How quickly can I change clamp sizes?
Clamp changes are very quick and require no tools. The clamps are held in place magnetically and are released by simply rotating and removing them. Mechanical realignment is normally not required. Any position or process differences associated with the new clamp are typically handled within the recipe created by the R&D or process engineer.
Can I save and run multiple recipes?
Yes. The PF-9060 supports multiple saved recipes so different products and processes can have their own programmed cycle. Each recipe can contain up to 25 steps and can control Hot Box engagement, rotation, travel, delays, cooling, homing, and pauses. Once a process is set up, the operator selects the appropriate recipe, loads the product, and starts the cycle.
Can I use the same 360 Fuser Pro for multiple tubing sizes?
Yes. The PF-9060 can accommodate tubing from approximately .015 to .345 in OD, depending on clamp size. Interchangeable clamps allow the same Fuser to be used across a wide range of tubing sizes and applications. Depending on the process, a different Hot Box nozzle or alignment gauge may also be required.
How difficult is the PF-9060 to program?
Recipe creation is designed primarily for R&D and process engineers and does not require PLC programming or coding. Recipes are created directly through the touchscreen using predefined process steps and parameters. Once the basic step structure is understood, a typical basic recipe can usually be created in about 30 minutes. Recipe editing is password protected so operators can run the process without changing the programmed settings.
What processes can the PF-9060 perform?
The PF-9060 can support a variety of catheter thermal-processing applications, including:
-
Butt-joint bonding
-
Thermal bonding and fusing
-
Reflow
-
Lamination
-
Marker-band bonding
-
Tipping Tipping applications may require semi-custom tooling or accessories depending on the specific process.
How much maintenance does the PF-9060 require?
The PF-9060 is designed to be a low-maintenance machine. Our display unit has exceeded 600,000 cycles, and we use high-quality industrial components throughout the system. Routine maintenance is minimal. The primary annual items are inspection of the spindle belt and inspection/lubrication of the X-axis actuator as needed. Precision Fixtures also supports replacement parts and repairs directly.
How difficult is alignment and setup?
Alignment is straightforward and is typically completed by the R&D or process engineer during initial setup. The alignment gauge provides a repeatable reference point when loading the part. Once positioned for a process, it normally does not need to be adjusted again. Alignment gauges attach magnetically and can be changed without tools. Different offsets and colors are also available for applications that require multiple alignment positions.
What is the ROI of automating a manual Hot Box process?
For suitable applications, the PF-9060 can typically provide a potential payback in approximately one to two years, depending on the process, labor requirements, cycle time, and number of systems being used. Automation reduces dependence on highly skilled manual processing and can improve consistency while helping reduce scrap, rework, and material waste.
Does Precision Fixtures accept purchase orders?
Yes. Purchase orders can be emailed directly to sales@precisionfixtures.com from your company email address. Customers can also purchase many Precision Fixtures products directly through our website using a credit card. Select products are also available through Chamfr.
What if the PF-9060 does not work for my application?
Precision Fixtures handles return requests on a case-by-case basis. A restocking fee may apply depending on the circumstances and condition of the equipment. If there is any uncertainty before purchasing, we encourage customers to use our complimentary sample-testing program so we can help evaluate equipment fit before they invest.
What support do I receive after purchasing a PF-9060?
Precision Fixtures provides direct support before, during, and after installation. For many installations, we provide complimentary delivery and setup when practical, along with training for the engineers and operators using the equipment. Customers can contact us directly by phone, email, or Teams for help with setup, recipes, troubleshooting, or application questions. On-site support may also be available when needed. The PF-9060 includes a two-year warranty, with mechanical parts warranted for the lifetime of the equipment against defects in material and workmanship, subject to the warranty terms.
How do I know which clamp size I need?
PF-9060 clamps are offered in a range of nominal tubing sizes, with each clamp accommodating approximately ±.015 in of tube OD. Because the usable ranges overlap, customers can select the clamp that best matches their tubing size and process. If you're unsure which clamp is the best fit, contact us with the tubing OD and we can recommend the appropriate size.
How do I know if the PF-9060 will work for my process before I buy one?
Send us your samples. Precision Fixtures offers complimentary application testing to help determine whether the PF-9060 is a good fit before you purchase equipment. Send us your tubing, assemblies, and any known process parameters. Depending on the application, we can test the samples using the appropriate PF equipment and share our observations, test parameters, pictures or video when applicable, and recommended next steps. If an NDA is required, we can complete that before confidential application details or samples are shared.
